Most of the time, Microsoft Word behaves relatively well, especially when you are creating simple documents. There are times, however, when it will change your formatting, insert text that isn’t relative, and add weird code.
Here are our top five annoyances while using Microsoft Word and the easy ways to fix them:
- Word changes capitalization of text as you type it.
Fix this by going to Tools/AutoCorrect Options and select the “AutoCorrect” tab. You can then deselect whichever check boxes are appropriate for the unwanted action. - Word unexpectedly inserts symbols in your text.
Use the same trick we mentioned before (go to Tools/AutoCorrect Options and select the “AutoCorrect” tab), then find the “Replace Text As You Type” check box. You can either deselect it to stop all replacements or select and delete individual items in the list below it. - Word highlights an entire word when you only want to select a few characters within the word.
This can be fixed by going to Tools/Options and clicking on the “Edit” tab. In the right hand column under Editing Options, deselect the “When Selecting, Automatically Select Entire Word” check box and click OK. - There is weird code in your document and your pictures no longer appear.
This is probably due to the fact that the “Field Code Display” has been toggled on. To switch it off, press Alt+F9. - All of your toolbars and menus have disappeared.
You’ve landed in full screen view, but can easily close out of it at the bottom of the window or pressing Alt+V to display the menu. Just select “Full Screen” to turn off the view mode.

Just wanted to drop you a line to say, I enjoy reading your site. I thought about starting a blog myself but don’t have the time.
Oh well maybe one day….
